Oh hey there!
I’m (not so eloquent) Emma — and I am a first year university student, studying English in beautiful British Columbia!
As an English student I (luckily) have an affinity for reading as well as getting lost in fictional worlds far from my own — and so that is what with blog will mostly entail.
I am someone who loves to read, watch, and listen to stories about people vastly different than me — as well stories that reign true to my own experiences. While I mostly read YA (young-adult) books, being in University level English classes has slowly but surely introduced me to books outside of that genre. I also tend to look for stories with diverse characters that are completely different than me, as I love to hear fresh new stories that I’ve never heard before — and I love that they overall teach me something new. Although, every once in a while I love to read a story that hits close to home, and that I’m able to understand and relate to on a personal level.
Along with the mountains of books I (try) to read, I have an ever-growing list of movies to watch. My taste in films has changed and matured over the years but I still love to watch anything I can get access to, or to be honest, anything that has a lot of hype surrounding it. I think books and movies go hand-in-hand, especially because so many books are adapted into movies and movies into books. The fact that characters I’ve imagined in my mind for 500+ pages can be turned into a real human beings on a big screen is amazing, and it definitely allows important stories to be heard by more people around the world.
Similar to both books and movies, I love theatre. Having danced my way through elementary & high school, as well as loved drama class with every bit of my heart, I think of theatre to be storytelling in it’s rawest form. I could probably talk about how amazing it is to be able to experience live theatre for 20 pages, but I won’t do that to you. To put it simply: In theatre you can’t go back and retake a scene, you can’t go back and fix a ‘typo’ or a word you pronounced incorrectly — everything is happening in the moment and that means everything can either go really well, or really badly.
All in all, ‘Not So Eloquent Emma’ is my little space to write about the books I read, the movies I watch, and anything else I’m enthused, excited, or even annoyed by. Expect reviews, discussions, lists, and opinions on all these types of things — as well as other random & creative things along the way!
